The Denver Nuggets may find solace in the fact that they are coming home tied with the San Antonio Spurs at 1-1 in their best of 7 series, but the Nuggets shouldn’t be able to find any solace in how poorly they played en route to being blown out by the Spurs 104-76.

If the Nuggets want to protect their home court, they’re going to need more than a combined 17 points from K-Mart and Melo.

They’re also going to need to play much more aggressive perimeter defense as they cannot allow for shooters like Brent Barry and Manu Ginobli to get their shots going early.

They will also need to shoot a lot better than the 37 % that they put up tonight as well. Few thought that Denver would come home with the series tied at 1-1, but if the Nuggets continue at this rate, few will even remember that the series was ever tied.

In order to regain control of this series, the Nuggets will need to play a smarter all around offensive game but moving the ball around the same way in which they did in game.

They will need points from their front court players, and they will need solid contributions from their bench players, Earl Boykins and Greg Buckner in particular. The Nuggets must not waver in their confidence after having been blown out and go back to what made them win game 1. Look for Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin to make their presence felt in front of the home crowd in both games 3 and 4, because if he or somebody else doesn’t step, the Nuggets’ presence will barely have been felt this playoff season.

Look for the Nuggets to leave everything on their home court and play like there’s no tomorrow.
