The Nuggets might be able to snatch up a free agent or so after all. The Nuggets' front office is projecting the salary cap to approach $49 million. If so, the Nuggets would have about $8 million to offer a free agent in the first year of a contract.

If this is true the Nuggets need to have a few people in mind. While they won’t be able to snag up Michael Redd or Ray Allen unless a sign and trade happens, 8 Million dollars is a lot more than just the mid-level exemption.

The Nuggets main priority is to sign a two guard to play complement to Andre Miller. Larry Hughes might just be that guy. If the Wizards somehow drop the ball and don’t offer Hughes the max, the Nuggets may be able to pick him up due to the fact he would join the best starting 5 in basketball and the Nuggets are known to be a great franchise with some of the greatest facilities. Joe Johnson, Bobby Simmons, Antonio Daniels, and Donyell Marshall are other key free agents in this dollar range.

Other names you might hear are: Tyronn Lue as a 3rd point guard, Gary Payton (reunion with George Karl), keeping DeMarr Johnson, or bringing back Jon Barry. Whether to pick up the option on Voshon Lenard is another tough decision Nugget’s management is going to have.

One way or another, the Nuggets off-season is going to be busy and exciting, unless there is a L-O-C-K-O-U-T.

Lets keep our heads up and hope not.
